About the position
Role Purpose
The Wintel & Virtualisation Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, support, and optimisation of Windows-based server environments and virtualisation platforms. The role ensures high availability, performance, security, and scalability of infrastructure systems.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Management
- Install, configure, maintain, and support Windows Server environments
- Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and file services
- Perform patching, upgrades, and system hardening
- Monitor server performance and capacity planning
Virtualisation
- Deploy and manage virtual environments (VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, etc.)
- Provision virtual machines and manage resource allocation
- Implement high availability, clustering, and disaster recovery solutions
- Perform backups, restores, and snapshot management
Security & Compliance
- Apply security best practices and hardening standards
- Manage user access, permissions, and policies
- Support audits and compliance requirements
Automation & Optimisation
- Develop scripts (PowerShell) to automate tasks
- Improve system performance and reliability
- Identify opportunities for cost and resource optimisation
Troubleshooting & Support
- Provide 2nd/3rd line support
- Diagnose and resolve server and virtualisation issues
- Root cause analysis and documentation
- Participate in on-call rotation when required
Project & Documentation
- Participate in infrastructure projects and upgrades
- Maintain system documentation and diagrams
- Collaborate with network, security, and cloud teams
Minimum Requirements
Technical Skills
- Windows Server [Phone Number Removed];)
- Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP
- VMware vSphere / Hyper-V
- Backup solutions (Veeam, Commvault, etc.)
- PowerShell scripting
- Storage technologies (SAN/NAS)
- Monitoring tools (SCOM, PRTG, etc.)
Experience
- 3-6+ years in Wintel/Virtualisation environments
- Experience with enterprise infrastructure
- Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure/AWS - advantageous)
Certifications (Advantageous)
- Microsoft (Azure, Windows Server)
- VMware VCP
- ITIL
