About the position
Underground Mobile Equipment Assistant Fitter
Overview: To assist qualified artisan with installation, fitting and commission of hydraulic and mechanical equipment on underground trackless mining machinery in a workshop and underground environment.
Duties:
• Supports Fitters in both workshop and underground environments; assists in trials, Installations, retrofit, and routine maintenance
• Contributes to reduced downtime, optimized consumable use, and improved performance
• Prepare, clean, and organize work areas, tools, and materials before and after jobs
• Hand over required tools and parts during repair or assembly tasks
• Assist in dismantling machinery and carrying out basic stripping and cleaning under supervision
• Perform routine inspections and report defects, leaks, or abnormalities to supervisors
• Assist in performing time studies to track performance, consumable usage, and equipment efficiency
• Support preventive maintenance and inspections as directed
• Adhere to all workplace safety rules and regulations
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent
• Support of tools, parts, and consumables
• Learn and develop practical skills by shadowing qualified Fitters and following instructions
• Carry out general housekeeping in workshops and designated work areas
Requirements:
• Minimum 2 years of experience in hydraulic and mechanical fitting on TMM equipment
• Medically fit to work in underground mines on TMM essential
• Matric certificate
• Fluent in English
• Understanding of Health and Safety
• Ability to perform fault finding and root cause analysis
• Aptitude towards understand mechanical, hydraulic and electrical principles
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must not have a criminal record
• Willing to work overtime
• Willing to travel
