TURNER / MACHINIST (HYDRAULICS):
Location: Paarden Eiland, Western Cape
NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 (Matric) / N3 or equivalent.
- Minimum of 4 years’ manufacturing experience.
- Qualified Artisan / Trade Test.
ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Turner/Machinist is responsible for the manufacture, assembly, repair, and refurbishment of hydraulic components, including pumps, cylinders, and powerpacks, in accordance with drawings, schematics, and job cards.
The role involves fault finding, fabrication, machining, welding, and preparation of components to meet high-quality and ISO 9001:2015 standards.
The Turner / Machinist supports the factory and sales teams with technical assessments and quotations while ensuring precision, safety, and efficiency in all manufacturing and repair activities.
Minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) / N3 or equivalent.
- Minimum of 4 years’ manufacturing experience.
- Qualified Artisan / Trade Test.
- Experience with powerpacks, pumps, and cylinders.
- Skilled in fault finding and fabrication.
- Capable of reading hydraulic schematics.
- Proficient in operating conventional machinery to produce parts to high-quality standards.
- Familiar with ISO 9001:2015 standards.
- Experienced in using a variety of measuring instruments.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist the Factory and salespersons with assessments for quotation purposes.
- Bend hydraulic tubing.
- Perform general fitting.
- Disassemble and assemble pumps requiring adjustment and setting, including troubleshooting without supervision.
- Strip and repair cylinders.
- Prepare parts for spray painting and paint parts.
- Perform hand welding using mechanically fed electrodes.
- Perform preliminary welding for positioning of jobs before welding, riveting, or bolting up.
- Machine different hydraulic components according to drawing specifications, following the job card as the procedure for manufacturing.
- Assist in the stripping off and assessment of repairs for quotation purposes.
- Sharpen repetition drills by machine or by hand.
- Drill holes.
- Tap and re-tap holes.
- Deburring all manufactured parts.
- Deburring by hand, grinding, or portable power tools.
- Perform sandblasting.
- Clean metal by degreasing.
- Operate hand portable and/or pedestal grinding machines where grinding to marks, gauges, sizes, or templates is not required.
- Rethread, re-tap, or reclaim nuts and bolts.
- Check, prepare, and mark your own components.
- Assemble jobs as per the drawing or circuit diagram.
- Operate conventional milling machines and lathe machines.
