About the position
Technical Manager - High & Maximum Containment Laboratories (BSL-3 / BSL-4) Our client, a leader in the health and biomedical sector, is seeking an experienced Technical Manager to assume full technical and operational ownership of high and maximum containment laboratory facilities (BSL-3 and BSL-4). If terms like negative pressure, containment integrity, and certification cycles are part of your everyday language-and not a source of stress-this role may be for you. Key Responsibilities Ensure the safe, compliant, and uninterrupted operation of BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories Manage all engineering, maintenance, commissioning, and re-certification activities Lead and develop a specialised biocontainment engineering team Take ownership of CAPEX and operational budgets Oversee HVAC, BMS, containment, and decontamination systems Serve as the technical authority on biosafety and biosecurity Provide expert support during high-pressure scenarios, including outbreak response Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable) ?? Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (NQF Level 7) Recognised local and international training and certification in biosafety and biosecurity Minimum 7 years' post-qualification experience in high-biocontainment laboratory environments At least 5 years' experience managing or supervising BSL-3 and/or BSL-4 facilities Proven, hands-on experience in: BSL-3 / BSL-4 commissioning and (re)certification Validation of containment systems HVAC and Building Management Systems (BMS) Preventative and corrective maintenance programmes Contractor management and budget control Additional Requirements Strong leadership, communication, and reporting capabilities Proficiency in CMMS, CAD software, and MS Office Willingness to travel locally and internationally as required The Bottom Line This is a high-accountability role with significant real-world impact. ??
