About the position

A leading specialist agricultural development finance institution is seeking an experienced Agricultural Specialist: Workout & Restructuring to join its Agricultural Economics & Advisory team at Head Office in Centurion.

The organisation plays a critical role in supporting South Africa's commercial and emerging farmers by providing tailored financial solutions across the agricultural value chain. This role focuses on safeguarding the institution's portfolio through proactive restructuring and turnaround strategies for distressed clients.

Main Purpose of the Role

To develop and implement innovative commercial restructuring solutions for distressed banking clients, mitigating risk and minimising losses. The role requires strong turnaround expertise, financial analysis capabilities, and end-to-end management of workout and restructuring processes.

Key Responsibilities

1?? Innovative Restructuring Solutions

  • Manage a portfolio of distressed agricultural banking clients.
  • Conduct full diagnostic analyses and preliminary due diligence.
  • Engage Banking, Credit, Legal and Collections teams to assess risk and viability.
  • Research and evaluate long-term business and financial sustainability.
  • Identify urgent cases requiring immediate intervention.

2?? Implementation of Approved Restructures

  • Engage clients and internal/external stakeholders on approved restructuring proposals.
  • Negotiate equitable and commercially viable deals.
  • Collaborate with Legal to draft loan, equity, and security agreements.
  • Ensure proper execution and sign-off of agreements.

3?? Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Monitor restructured accounts to ensure turnaround objectives are achieved.
  • Analyse management information and performance variances.
  • Present portfolio updates to governance structures (EXCO, Credit Committees, Board).
  • Provide data for impairment calculations to Finance.

4?? Advisory Services

  • Advise Banking and Collections teams on potential workout interventions.
  • Contribute subject matter expertise to policy and procedure reviews.
  • Represent the organisation at internal and external turnaround forums.

5?? Reporting & Record Keeping

  • Ensure compliance with record management policies.
  • Compile governance and management reports.
  • Maintain accurate system updates and trend reporting.
  • Address audit findings with corrective action plans.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

  • BCom (3-year qualification) in Business, Agriculture, Commerce or related field.

Experience (3-5 years):

  • Banking / Finance deal structuring
  • Primary agriculture exposure
  • Structured trade & commodity finance
  • Strong financial and credit analysis
  • Business turnaround planning
  • Evaluation of restructures/workouts
  • Managing distressed clients
