About the position
Seeking Space Planners to join our Client's central office team. This role reports to the Space Planning Manager and is pivotal in developing and implementing customer-focused planograms that optimise shelf space, enhance shopping convenience, and deliver category trading plans across South Africa and Africa.
By combining shopper insights, category strategies, and commercial objectives, you will help create layouts that balance the art and science of space planning - driving sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Planogram Design: Develop and implement modulars and floorplans that maximise retail space, sales, and profit
- Category Planning: Execute assortment, pricing, shelf layout, promotional strategy, and store revamps aligned to category business plans
- Research & Insights: Leverage shopper behaviour, category insights, and market research to inform space planning decisions
- Data Analysis: Analyse midi- and micro-space allocation against benchmarks; review layouts with the Space Planning Manager to assess impact
- Systems & Tools: Utilise advanced Excel, CAD, JDA/Spaceman, Floorplanning, and SAP/AS400 to design and maintain planograms, fixture databases, and image libraries
- Project Management: Manage implementation, review, and post-audit processes for space planning projects
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Communicate clearly and influence across all stakeholder levels, providing strategic guidance on layout changes
Requirements:
- Qualifications: Business-related qualification (Marketing, Commerce, Supply Chain)
- Experience: 2-3 years in retail space planning, ideally within FMCG/Grocery retail (not clothing or apparel)
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to analyse and present data
- Proficiency in space planning software (JDA/Spaceman, CAD, Floorplanning) and advanced Excel
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence across multiple stakeholder levels
- Ability to multi-task, manage time effectively, and thrive in a high-pressure environment
