About the position
Role Overview
The Senior Technician is responsible for overseeing the Mechanical and Electronic Repair Department, ensuring optimal service delivery, technical excellence, and operational efficiency. This role includes managing technical teams, resolving complex issues, supporting client requirements, and maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Department & Technical Management
- Oversee daily operations of the Electronic and Mechanical Repair Department.
- Ensure service levels are consistently maintained in line with company standards.
- Allocate and prioritise repairs via the mechanical repair board.
- Address technical issues raised in daily meetings and escalate where necessary.
- Provide technical guidance and support on complex queries and repairs.
- Ensure all solutions and updates are effectively communicated to the team.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop technical team members.
- Ensure staff are trained and updated on product changes and technical developments.
- Oversee internal product training initiatives.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring service excellence.
- Support warranty processes, including authorisation of warranty claims.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including management and R&D teams.
Operational & Workshop Oversight
- Monitor workshop consumables and ensure optimal usage.
- Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and safety standards within the department.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
Field Support & Reporting
- Provide on-site technical support where required.
- Complete and maintain accurate site visit reports and documentation.
Training & Development
- Deliver and support external training programmes.
- Ensure training materials are accurate and up to date.
- Assist with internal and external training sessions and product launches.
Stores & Inventory Support
- Assist with forecasting and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
- Ensure correct product identification and bin allocation in stores.
- Support training of store personnel on product updates and identification.
Branch Support
- Assist with overall branch operations when required.
- Act in the capacity of the Branch Manager in their absence.
- Support ad hoc technical and operational duties.
Minimum Requirements
- Occupational Certificate / Diploma in Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 6) or N6 with 4–5 years’ relevant practical experience.
- Strong knowledge of electronics with the ability to test, fault-find, and repair to circuit board level.
- Extensive experience in electronic control circuits, mechanical systems, and motor repairs.
- Proven experience in a technical leadership or supervisory role.
- Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle.
- Willingness to travel for site support as required.
