About the position
A well-established and well-known pharmaceutical company focused on driving business within the SADEC regions requires the above to develop and execute sales strategies, ensuring maximised sales opportunities and achievement of annual targets. The role involves leading a sales team as well as managing very senior key accounts for the company.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Marketing, Commerce, Life Sciences or Pharmaceutical Sciences is preferred but not essential for this role.
- Previous pharmaceutical sales experience is essential.
- Previous sales management experience is preferred but is not essential.
- The company is happy to promote a senior Key Accounts Manager into this Executive Sales Management role as long as the person has the ability to manage a team of people.
- The successful candidate must have proven experience managing strategic Pharmacy, Retail and Wholesale accounts.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical commercial environment is essential.
- Previous experience calling on retail pharmacy groups and healthcare channels.
- Demonstrated success in delivering sales growth and market expansion.
- An understanding of pharmaceutical market dynamics, generic medicines environment, retail pharmacy structures, hospital procurement channels, cardiovascular and chronic medication categories, product lifecycle management, commercial negotiation and pricing principles and therapeutic category evolution and market trends is pref.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Managing, developing and executing sales strategies, ensuring maximised sales opportunities and achievement of annual targets. The role involves leading a sales team as well as managing very senior Key Accounts for the company.
- Attending executive meetings and submitting reports on the teams to discuss their progress in terms of achieving their KPI's.
- Leading and driving national sales performance, strategic key account growth, and commercial execution across the business.
- Carrying responsibility for managing strategic pharmacy and wholesale relationships while leading a mature and experienced national sales function.
- Responsible for delivering sustainable revenue growth, protecting and expanding market access, managing key commercial partnerships, and positioning the business competitively within an evolving pharmaceutical environment.
- Leading commercial initiatives to maintain and expand market share within the South African pharmaceutical landscape.
- Identifying new commercial opportunities and product positioning strategies to remain competitive.
- Managing overall sales performance against annual budgets, targets, and profitability objectives.
- Maintaining executive-level relationships with key buying and procurement stakeholders.
- Negotiating commercial agreements, listings, promotional activity, and pricing structures.
- Protecting and expanding existing listings while identifying opportunities for portfolio growth.
- Strengthening partnerships through consistent engagement and value-driven account management.
- Collaborating with operations, logistics, regulatory, marketing, and executive leadership teams.
- Supporting commercial decision-making across multiple business functions.
- Contributing to operational priorities within a lean and highly collaborative environment.
- Participating in strategic planning and business growth initiatives.
