About the position
Background:
- Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences
- WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives
- In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to Academics
Division: Priceless SA
Main purpose of the job:
- To lead on Legal aspects of public health research related to NCD prevention, the commercial determinants of health and nutrition
Location:
- Wits School of Public Health, Parktown, Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
- Identify novel research methods and ideas
- Attract research funding by identifying and applying for research grants in line with PRICELESS research strategy
- Publish research in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, reports and present findings to stakeholders, the PRICELESS team and other groups including the media
- Manage research projects from inception to completion
- Write research protocols
- Oversee the sourcing/ procuring of protocol-specific equipment and supplies as required
- Clean and analyse data according to the highest standards, using appropriate software
- Compile and contribute to conference presentations
- Write and contribute to peer-reviewed publications
- Disseminate research findings internally, to universities, to partners and other external stakeholders such the community and media
- Manage and mentor junior researcher
- Supervise students (Masters)
- Uphold the values of Priceless SA
Required minimum education and training:
- LLM, LLD or PhD in Health Policy
Required minimum work experience:
- Minimum seven years working experience in a research environment
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- Interest in constitutional law
- Interest in administrative law
- Interest in health and equity in South Africa
- Experience in research methodologies
- Published articles in peer-reviewed journals
- Strong writing and presentation skills
- Good conceptualisation skills
- Experience in teaching
- Attention to detail
- Flexible and adaptive with a positive approach to taking on several duties
- Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
