The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supervising a team of mechanical engineering practitioners and it is
expected that the person provides leadership and assists in the resolution of technical matters related to the discipline for
the project.
Job duties:
Fulfil the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer and/or Engineering Manager in the company
o Supervision of Mechanical engineering teams.
o Review and approve the mechanical and layout designs, criteria & related documents.
o Review and approve mechanical technical deliverables (specifications, datasheets, drawings, etc.).
o Assign work tasks (via approved EWPs) to individuals and continuously monitor progress and quality.
o Represent the company in project engineering coordination meetings.
o Schedule, coordinate and participate in mechanical design reviews.
o Ensure coordination, between the mechanical team and other disciplines, of all activities being performed
as the design evolves.
o Ensure that quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with project procedures and
the quality assurance plan.
- General:
o Client Liaisons;
o Establish design tools, software, relevant codes and standards to be used in the company and on
projects.
o Contractor & contract management; and
o Formulating BOQ’s, PFD’s & P&ID’s;
o Technical evaluation of tenders received.
- Mechanical Engineering & Design:
o Mechanical design.
- Project Management:
o Develop a thorough understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule.
o Prepare a list of engineering deliverables and time-based functions to facilitate the planning and control of
the engineering work and budget.
o Develop and maintain the project’s scope of work and execution documentation and revise as required
during the design evolution.
o Manage, control and review the Engineering Work Packages (EWP) associated with all deliverables and
time-based functions to ensure that budgets and schedules are being met.
o Project scoping and scope monitoring;
o Assist in the preparation and development of project specific procedures
- Promote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of mechanical
engineering work.
- Quality and cost control.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- B Eng. / BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional registration with ECSA.
- More than 8 years working experience.
- Experience as discipline lead on projects (managing a team, schedule and budget would be highly
advantageous).
- Experience working on large or complex projects in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Knowledge / Expertise of the following:
o Project engineering & management;
o Pipe work, pumping system design;
o Feed System Designs.
o Structural Designs.
o Pipe stress and flow calculations;
o Understanding and formulating P&ID and MFD’s; and
o Background in FEA and/or CFD Software an advantage.
o Experience in the mining and/or metals (pyrometallurgy) industry will be an advantage.
GENERAL
- High level of computer literacy;
- Working knowledge of design packages;
- NON-SMOKER
- Candidates must be able to obtain a certificate of medical fitness
