Location: Midrand, Gauteng
Job Purpose
The Senior Engineering Manager will oversee the engineering division, ensuring that all projects are designed, developed, and executed to meet the company’s high standards for quality, safety, efficiency, and sustainability. This role will involve strategic leadership, technical oversight, resource management, and innovation in energy solutions. The ideal candidate will drive excellence in engineering practices, contribute to project planning, and collaborate with other senior leaders to achieve company objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree is advantageous).
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or equivalent professional certification.
- A relevant Project Management certificate (e.g., PMP or PRINCE2) would be advantageous.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the engineering field, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
- Extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, particularly in solar PV, energy storage systems, and energy efficiency projects.
- Proven track record of successfully managing large, complex engineering projects from concept to completion.
- Experience in both the design and execution phases of engineering projects, including cost estimation, risk analysis, and resource planning.
- Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, PVsyst, MATLAB, or similar).
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead and manage the engineering team, ensuring that all projects are executed to the highest standards in design, safety, and quality.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to junior and mid-level engineers.
Project Oversight
- Oversee the technical execution of energy-related projects, including renewable energy systems, energy storage, and energy efficiency solutions.
- Ensure all engineering aspects are aligned with client needs, budget constraints, and timeline expectations.
Design & Technical Strategy
- Drive the development of innovative designs and technical solutions that meet industry standards and client specifications.
- Ensure that the company’s engineering solutions are both cost-effective and sustainable.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, operations, and procurement, to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Work closely with clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to maintain strong relationships.
Risk Management
- Identify and manage engineering risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Implement corrective actions when necessary and ensure that mitigation strategies are in place.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure that all engineering practices comply with relevant industry regulations, quality standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local and international regulations, codes, and standards.
Resource Planning
- Oversee resource allocation, including budgeting for engineering projects, managing workloads, and ensuring the availability of the necessary materials and tools to meet project requirements.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical innovation within the engineering team.
- Stay updated on the latest engineering technologies, best practices, and trends in the renewable energy sector.
Performance Monitoring
- Implement engineering performance metrics and track project performance to ensure that objectives are met.
- Provide regular updates to senior leadership on project status and engineering challenges.
