Senior Draughtsman

About the position

Company based in Pretoria Gauteng, is seeking a skilled Senior Draughtsman to join their team.
Job Purpose:

• To produce detailed technical drawings and 3D models for sheet metal components and assemblies using SolidWorks, ensuring manufacturability, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and revise 3D models and 2D drawings of sheet metal parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and customer requirements.
• Apply sheet metal design principles including bend allowances, tolerances, and material properties.
• Collaborate with production, quality, and procurement teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
• Maintain drawing standards and ensure documentation is up to date.
• Conduct design reviews and provide technical input to improve product quality and manufacturability.
• Create and manage BOMs (Bill of Materials) and ensure alignment with ERP systems.
• Support prototyping and testing phases with accurate documentation and revisions.
• Mentor junior draughtsman and provide guidance on best practices.

Required Skills & Competencies:

• Technical Proficiency: Advanced SolidWorks skills, especially in sheet metal module.
• Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes (laser cutting, bending, welding, etc.).
• Attention to Detail: High accuracy in dimensioning, tolerancing, and drawing standards.
• Communication: Ability to clearly communicate with cross-functional teams.
• Problem-Solving: Capable of identifying design issues and proposing effective solutions.
• Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, able to put in the hours to finish the jobs.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or related field.
• Matric certificate.
• Minimum 5–7 years of experience in sheet metal design and drafting.
• Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) or equivalent is an advantage.
• Experience with manufacturing environments and ERP systems preferred.
