Job Profile: Security Manager
Location: Wadeville, Germiston, Johannesburg

Job Purpose
The Security Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive security strategies, systems, and protocols to safeguard the company's employees, assets, materials, equipment, and premises. The role ensures full compliance with legislative requirements and company policies while leading and coordinating the performance of all on-site security personnel, contractors, and service providers.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Security Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain the site security strategy aligned with business objectives and ISO/OHS requirements.
- Conduct ongoing risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend mitigation measures.
- Implement physical and electronic access control systems, CCTV, alarm systems, and perimeter security.
- Develop and enforce security standard operating procedures (SOPs), visitor management protocols, and shift deployment rosters.
Personnel & Contractor Management
- Supervise internal security officers and manage outsourced guarding service providers.
- Set and monitor performance KPIs, ensure discipline and adherence to company policies.
- Conduct ongoing training, drills, and awareness programs for staff and contractors.
- Ensure all security staff maintain PSIRA registration and required certifications.
Incident Response & Investigation
- Oversee and coordinate all investigations into theft, vandalism, sabotage, or other security breaches.
- Manage evidence collection, reporting, and liaison with SAPS and other law enforcement bodies.
- Maintain detailed incident logs, reports, and case files for management and legal purposes.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with PSIRA regulations, OHS Act, POPIA, Fire Safety regulations, and company policies.
- Conduct regular audits of security systems, personnel, and contractor performance.
- Develop, maintain, and test emergency response and evacuation procedures.
- Liaise with external stakeholders such as local authorities, emergency services, and community policing forums.
Asset & Infrastructure Protection
- Safeguard raw materials, finished goods, and company vehicles from theft or loss.
- Oversee security systems related to access gates, weighbridges, perimeter fencing, and storage yards.
- Support logistics and warehouse teams in verifying and securing inbound and outbound movement of goods.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Reduction in theft/loss incidents.
- Compliance with internal and external audits.
- Zero non-conformances in security and safety inspections.
- Guarding service performance and cost control.
- Timely and accurate incident reporting.
- Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum Qualification: Grade 12 / Matric.
- Preferred: National Diploma or Degree in Security Management, Policing, Risk Management, or related field.
- Professional Registration: Valid PSIRA registration - Grade B or higher (mandatory).
- Experience:
- Minimum 8-10 years' security management experience in a heavy manufacturing / industrial / logistics environment.
- Proven experience managing large-scale guarding operations and electronic surveillance systems.
- Strong background in investigations, crisis management, and stakeholder liaison (SAPS, unions, etc.).
- Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Sound knowledge of OHS Act, PSIRA Act, POPIA, and relevant local regulations.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and decision-making ability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication (English & Afrikaans advantageous).
- Competent in MS Office and security technology (CCTV, biometrics, access control).
- Ability to operate effectively under pressure and manage emergencies calmly.
- Working Conditions
- Based on-site at the Wadeville manufacturing plant.
- Requires shift flexibility and availability after hours or weekends as operationally required.
- Exposure to industrial noise, heavy machinery, and outdoor conditions.
