About the position
My client based in Cape Town is currently looking for a Scrum Master to join their team on a contract basis.
IT / FINANCE
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent Agile certification (preferred)
- Proven experience as a Scrum Master within an IT / software development environment
- Solid understanding of Scrum framework, including all ceremonies, artefacts, and principles
- Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Reviews, Retrospectives, Backlog Refinement)
- Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring Agile teams
- Strong experience in removing impediments and managing team blockers
- Exposure to DevOps practices and software development lifecycle
- Experience working with tools such as JIRA and Confluence
- Stakeholder engagement experience across business and technical teams
- Experience in the insurance industry (advantageous)
Responsibilities
- Act as a servant leader and coach to Agile teams, promoting Agile principles, values, and best practices
- Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies and ensure effective team participation and delivery
- Support the team in achieving Sprint goals, maintaining velocity, and improving predictability
- Identify, manage, and remove team impediments to ensure continuous progress
- Protect the team from scope creep and uncontrolled changes in priorities
- Collaborate with Project/Programme Managers to align delivery with broader programme timelines and frameworks
- Support the Product Owner with backlog management, prioritisation, and refinement
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, quality, and high performance within the team
- Promote collaboration, transparency, and strong team dynamics
- Monitor team performance and provide insights through reporting and Agile metrics
- Facilitate conflict resolution and escalate people-related issues where necessary
- Ensure adherence to governance, frameworks, and standards set by the Project Delivery Centre (PDC)
Competency
- Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum
- Understanding of iterative and incremental development
- Good knowledge of DevOps principles and software development practices
- Proficiency in Agile tools (JIRA, Confluence)
- Servant leadership and coaching mindset
- Strong facilitation and mentoring skills
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving ability
- Ability to build high-performing, self-organising teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
