Scrum Master - Project Delivery Centre (PDC)
Location: Cape Town (Hybrid)
Role Overview
The Scrum Master operates within the Project Delivery Centre (PDC), a centre of excellence responsible for the governance and delivery of strategic initiatives across the organisation. The PDC ensures alignment to business strategy, standardised delivery frameworks, and consistent project execution within scope, budget, and timelines.
The Scrum Master is a servant leader responsible for enabling Agile delivery by coaching teams, facilitating collaboration, and ensuring adherence to Scrum principles. This role focuses on empowering self-organising teams, removing impediments, and driving continuous improvement-not on managing delivery as a traditional project manager.
Key Responsibilities
Agile Facilitation & Delivery
- Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives
- Guide the team in achieving Sprint goals, improving velocity, and maintaining predictable delivery
- Promote effective estimation practices across user stories, features, and epics
- Ensure alignment between team delivery and broader programme timelines
Coaching & Leadership
- Act as a servant leader, coaching teams and stakeholders on Agile principles and best practices
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on collaboration, ownership, quality, and continuous improvement
- Challenge traditional ways of working and drive Agile adoption across teams
Impediment Removal & Governance
- Proactively identify, manage, and remove delivery impediments
- Escalate blockers where necessary to ensure minimal disruption to delivery
- Protect the team from scope creep and uncontrolled changes
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with Product Owners, Project/Programme Managers, and stakeholders to ensure clear communication and alignment
- Support the Product Owner in backlog prioritisation and refinement
- Act as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders
Team Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Improve team dynamics, efficiency, and delivery performance
- Facilitate conflict resolution and promote a healthy team environment
- Drive adoption of Definition of Done (DoD) and quality standards
- Support Communities of Practice and knowledge sharing initiatives
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Agile and Scrum principles, frameworks, and practices
- Proven ability to coach teams and stakeholders in Agile ways of working
- Solid understanding of software development and DevOps practices
- Proficiency in JIRA and Confluence
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage conflict and influence without authority
- Insurance industry experience (advantageous)
Experience Required
- Demonstrated experience working as a Scrum Master in Agile environments
- Strong facilitation skills across all Scrum ceremonies
- Experience coaching teams toward Agile maturity and continuous improvement
- Proven ability to remove impediments and manage dependencies
- Experience engaging with cross-functional stakeholders and leadership
