About the position
Our client, a leader in the OEM industry, is looking for a technically strong Mechanical Sales Engineer to drive sales growth across the KZN region. This role is ideal for someone who can combine mechanical engineering knowledge with customer relationship management, technical solution selling, and commercial sales delivery.
The successful candidate will be responsible for growing revenue and margin in the KZN territory, developing strategic customer relationships, managing distributors and channel partners, and identifying technical solutions that improve customer uptime, reliability, and total cost of ownership.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Managing and growing sales revenue, gross margin and territory performance across the KwaZulu-Natal region.
- Identifying and developing opportunities with priority customers, sectors and applications.
- Building strong, long-term customer relationships at multiple levels within client organisations.
- Positioning the company as a trusted technical and commercial partner to customers.
- Influencing specifications, buying decisions and solution selection through value-based technical selling.
- Understanding customer operating requirements, reliability challenges and application needs.
- Recommending engineered product, service and project solutions that improve uptime, reduce total cost of ownership and support critical applications.
- Preparing and managing quotations and pricing proposals while balancing competitiveness, margin and commercial risk.
- Developing customer-based account plans and territory plans.
- Maintaining a strong opportunity pipeline and accurate sales forecast through consistent CRM usage.
- Supporting demand planning through market insight, opportunity tracking and analysis of wins, losses and growth potential.
- Building, managing and growing distributor and channel partner relationships.
- Working closely with internal teams, distributors and customers to align technical and commercial solutions.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- A BSc, BEng, BTech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical qualification.
- 5-8 years' experience in technical sales, solutions sales or industrial sales.
- Experience in mechanical, engineered, rotating equipment, reliability solutions, industrial components or related technical environments would be advantageous.
- Strong practical mechanical engineering knowledge and the ability to apply this to industrial customer applications.
- Experience managing a sales territory, customer accounts, quotations, pricing and pipeline activity.
- CRM experience, preferably Salesforce or similar.
- Strong customer relationship management skills.
- Commercial judgement, pricing awareness and the ability to identify profitable opportunities.
- The ability to communicate with both technical and commercial decision-makers.
- A valid driver's licence with no endorsements.
- Willingness to travel extensively within the KZN region.
