About the position
Background:
- At the heart of South Africa's HIV and TB crises, CHRU pioneers clinical research in infectious diseases like HIV, TB, HPV, Hepatitis B/C, and COVID-19
- Dedicated scientists at CHRU strive to enhance treatments and improve the lives of affected communities
Main purpose of the job:
- Responsible for coordinating all the trial activities that result in the smooth running of a clinical research project
Location:
- Jose Pearson TB Hospital, Gqeberha
Key performance areas:
Recruitment of patients
- Identify participants
- Education of protocol to participants
- Scheduling/booking patients
- Collecting of medical history data from participant and hospital records
Screening
- Compilation of research documentation
- Informed consent process
- Make inform consent copies as per Unit SOP
- Confirm participant details
- Ensure that all study procedures are fulfilled
- Allocate screening patient identification number
Enrolment and Study Visits
- Assessing inclusion and excluding criteria in relation to protocol requirements
- Randomisation
- Ensure that all study procedures are fulfilled
- Do scheduled and follow up visits
- Follow up on participants with adverse reactions or abnormal results
- Follow up of participants with missed visits
- Performing of study procedures including but not limited to ECG’s, Spirometry, sample collection and questionnaires
- Management of routine visits and care
Laboratory Procedures
- Processing of samples and maintenance of harvesting logs
- Maintenance of freezers and fridge temperatures for stability of stored samples at site
- Monitoring of laboratory asset temperature ranges and actioning accordingly
- Maintenance of equipment for sample storage
- Shipment of samples
- Ensure that data is eligible, attributable, and of good quality
- Peer review of all data prior to data entry
- Enter e CRF data within protocol required timelines
- Following up on data queries and corrections within a specified time frame
- Maintenance of documentation for the Investigator Site Fles
- Preparation of source documentation and Investigator Site Files prior to audits
- Preparation of regulatory files prior to protocol implementation
- Continuous updating of screening / enrolment and delegation logs
- Updating of progress reports
- Reporting of SAE / EAE within required timelines
- Reporting of protocol violations and deviations
Required minimum education and training:
- Knowledge / skill resulting from completion of Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree/Medical training background
Professional Body Registration:
- Professional Nurse Registration (SANC)
Required minimum work experience:
- One - two years of work experience in clinical research field
- For non-interventional studies - 3-5 years’ work experience
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- Individual must have attention to detail, leadership and good interpersonal relationships
- Accountability and the ability to work under pressure so as to adhere to strict timelines is of major importance
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages (Word , Excel, Outlook)
- Maintenance of confidentiality will be required
