About the position
A rewarding opportunity is available in Durban for a Trauma-trained nursing professional to join a fast-paced Emergency Unit. This role is suited to a clinically confident nurse who can provide holistic emergency care while working effectively as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients presenting to the Emergency Unit.
- Conduct patient assessments, monitor clinical conditions and identify changes requiring immediate intervention.
- Deliver appropriate emergency nursing interventions in accordance with clinical protocols and professional standards.
- Administer prescribed medication and treatment safely and accurately.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and deteriorating patients, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records and clinical documentation.
- Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and disease processes to support holistic patient care.
- Maintain compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
- Work collaboratively with doctors, nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to a positive, supportive and value-based team environment.
- Maintain compliance with SANC requirements, relevant legislation, policies and professional standards.
- Participate in quality improvement and clinical governance initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse is essential.
- Postgraduate Diploma/Degree in Emergency Nursing will be required for Shift Leader responsibilities.
- Compliance with the SANC Scope of Practice for a Registered Nurse and all applicable healthcare legislation.
- Minimum of 1 year's post-qualification experience within an Emergency Unit.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is essential; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) will be advantageous.
- Participative and collaborative approach, with the ability to foster a healthy and positive working environment that promotes teamwork and a value-based culture.
- Effective leadership skills, including highly developed communication, problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Updated knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, industrial relations, standards, codes, ethics and competency standards.
- Updated knowledge and understanding of pathophysiology, anatomy and disease processes to provide optimal holistic patient care.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure within a fast-paced emergency environment.
