About the position
Our client, a leading heavy equipment manufacturer and industrial technology solutions provider is looking to appoint a Product Line Manager to join their drilling and bolting team based in Boksburg, Johannesburg.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing projects from conception through to its execution, work closely with engineering, sales, and customers to shape the product roadmap, improve performance, and ensure their solutions stay competitive in the mining and tunnelling market. You will be driving product improvements, understanding customer needs, and influencing business direction.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum 5+ years' experience in product management / business development within mining.
- Postgraduate qualifications will be advantageous.- Proven technical experience within underground mining equipment, particularly drilling and bolting
- Strong understanding of tenders, contracts, and project environments.
- Demonstrated experience in market analysis and product marketing tactics.
- Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills to manage the full life cycle of a product line, from ideation through launch to withdrawal.
- Deep understanding of the market, customers, and competition to make informed business decisions and product strategies.
- Project management and organization skills to manage multiple product lines concurrently while meeting deadlines and staying within budget.
- Strong negotiation skills for working with vendors and partners, and problem-solving skills to address issues that may arise throughout the product lifecycle.
- Financial acumen to manage product line profitability, analyse market trends, and make pricing decisions.
- Ability to use data-driven insights to drive product development and marketing strategies.
- Extensive experience on using, operating, and setting of underground mining equipment.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills to guide cross-functional teams including design, development, marketing, sales, and customer service.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Valid driver's license and passport.
- Medically fit for underground mine visits.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible to engage, collaborate and align with relevant project teams from identified mining houses, EPC's and EPCM's with regards to current and future planned projects in both South Africa and Africa.
- Ensure customer projects teams are aware of the company's offerings and solution thus, it will require high level presentations and discussions supported by relevant internal support where and when required.
- Responsible for the successful participation of tenders linked to current and future projects issued by both mining houses and EPC's & EPCM's.
- Be the main point of contact for all matters related to projects and tenders linked to identified project related customers.
- Conduct regular product presentations to key customers.
- Ensure effective relationship building with each customer driving high level engagement ensuring strong collaboration together with the organisation.
- Attend industry events, conferences, networking meetings, and other external opportunities.
- Travel both cross-border and internationally when required to visit relevant customer project sites supported by the relevant internal team if required.
- Maintain a pipeline of all project activities and progress within Africa and South Africa moreover, report and present data to the internal teams, management, external partners, and directly with relevant OEMs.
- Involve relevant Product Line Managers (PLM), Business Development Managers (BDM) and Business Developers (BD) in the relevant projects/ tenders and establishing relevant internal project teams to ensure successful participation within identified opportunities.
- Responsible for communicating potential project probabilities with relevant PLMs to ensure effective forecast where required.
- Setting strategic direction for each project and defining and implementing plans to meet business and financial objectives.
- Set up strategic project meetings internally to discuss and share all relevant information linked to projects per region, share relevant contacts and discuss/ set action plans going forward.
- Collaborate with relevant PLMs to ensure that product specifications meet every tender & project technical specifications.
- Collaborate with Capital Office Manager to ensure the successful submission of tenders and proposals.
- Ensure the successful proposal submissions to all relevant tenders with the support of the PLM's & Capital Sales Manager and Capital Office Manager.
- Overseeing the entire life cycle of a project from conception through to its execution, finalization phase in conjunction with the customer expectation.
- Responsible for the annual targets linked to set project revenue.
- Conduct market research to identify customer needs and project opportunities.
- Monitoring and analysing market trends and competitors to adjust strategies as needed.
- Coordinating across various departments like sales, production, finance, after-market, technical and life cycle support to ensure the successful launch and sustainability of each successful adjudicated tender/ project.
- Regular reviewing and reporting on project performance to senior management.
- Maintain a culture of Safety and Health above all else along with a strong environmental responsibility.
