About the position
We are currently recruiting an experienced Operations Manager to lead and oversee wholesale petroleum operations within a regulated fuel market environment. This role is responsible for driving operational excellence, compliance, safety, and efficiency across fuel storage, logistics, and distribution networks.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Operations Leadership
- Provide strategic direction for wholesale petroleum operations in alignment with corporate objectives and market demand
- Optimise fuel sourcing, storage, distribution, and delivery networks
- Drive continuous improvement across logistics, supply chain, transportation, and bulk distribution
- Ensure compliance with the Petroleum Products Act and national energy policy directives
- Align operational capacity with trading volumes and wholesale supply contracts
Wholesale Supply Chain & Logistics
- Oversee bulk fuel storage facilities, terminal operations, and road tanker transportation
- Ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to wholesale and commercial customers
- Manage third-party logistics providers, transporters, and storage facilities through SLAs
- Monitor stock levels, forecasts, and supply risks
- Ensure compliance with SANS standards and Dangerous Goods Regulations
Financial & Operational Control
- Manage operational budgets, logistics costs, and depot expenses
- Monitor losses, shrinkage, variances, and cost recovery
- Support pricing structures within the regulated fuel framework
- Partner with finance and trading teams to optimise margins
Governance, Compliance & Safety
- Ensure fuel quality compliance and contamination control
- Champion a zero-harm safety culture and operational governance
- Oversee audits, reporting, stock reconciliation, and loss control systems
- Support digital transformation and ERP system optimisation
Minimum Requirements
- Matric (essential)
- Qualification in Supply Chain Management or related field
- Minimum 6 years' experience in the petroleum industry
- Minimum 6 years' experience in road freight or bulk fuel logistics
- Strong ERP system experience (SAP, Pastel, or similar)
- Solid understanding of fuel operations, compliance, and service delivery
- Ability to work flexible hours, including alternate weekends
- Reliable transport
- Ability to work under pressure with strong attention to detail
