Our Client is looking for a Millwright to join their team
Location: Ottery Western Cape
Purpose of the Role
The Millwright is responsible for maintaining factory equipment, infrastructure, and technical systems in excellent operating condition. This includes performing general maintenance and repairs, conducting fault analysis, and manufacturing or installing parts when required.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Repairs
- Perform fault analysis and problem-solving across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Take responsibility for workshop operations, services room (compressed air and cooling water), technical infrastructure, and company vehicles.
- Identify, report, and rectify technical issues on assigned equipment.
- Repair defective equipment and tooling as assigned, ensuring proper repairs after temporary fixes.
- Assist in determining when external suppliers or toolrooms should be involved.
Maintenance
- Develop and implement maintenance plans and checklists for assigned equipment.
- Carry out and document scheduled maintenance, either personally or via approved service providers.
- Perform general upkeep (lubrication, adjustments) as required.
- Identify and manage spare part requirements through preventative measures and stock analysis.
Construction & Installation
- Build racks, stands, dividers, and other infrastructure using various materials.
- Participate in factory installations, including pipework, cabling, and machine setup, in collaboration with electricians and technical teams.
Management & Administration
- Report tasks, progress, and completion timelines to the Maintenance Manager.
- Maintain strong communication with production, planning, technical teams, and external suppliers.
- Log all maintenance and repair work performed.
- Assist with supplier engagement, spare parts ordering, and maintenance budget planning.
Health & Safety & Food Safety
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in technical areas, workshops, and stores.
- Report hazards, accidents, and near misses promptly.
- Apply and maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and comply with Food Safety Management System (FSMS) requirements at applicable sites.

- Read technical manuals, supplier literature, and industry resources.
- Maintain contact with key suppliers and explore new solutions.

Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric) required; minimum N3 in Millwright Trade Theory.
- Certification: Trade-tested Millwright qualification.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years’ post-trade test experience in a manufacturing environment.
Competencies
- Strong knowledge of technical drawings, assemblies, and spare part identification.
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment (lathe, milling machine, welder, etc.).
- Ability to create technical sketches for part manufacturing.
- Knowledge of injection moulding, reheat stretch blow moulding, and related processes.
- Sound understanding of mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and technical infrastructure systems.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, act decisively, and meet deadlines.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- High emotional intelligence and interpersonal effectiveness.
- Commitment to safe working practices and compliance with H&S requirements.
