About the Role
A well-established data-driven organisation is seeking a Mid-level Platform Engineer (Infrastructure & Networking) to join its technical team. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing and evolving core infrastructure environments where performance, reliability, and scalability are critical to business success.
This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys working close to the metal, solving complex infrastructure and networking challenges, and contributing to the continuous improvement of modern platform capabilities. You will work across on-premise/bare-metal systems, networking, storage, virtualization, and emerging container orchestration environments.
This is a technical, growth-focused role suited to a curious and self-driven individual who takes ownership of problems and enjoys building resilient systems in a fast-moving environment. You will collaborate closely with engineering and data teams to ensure platform stability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain, and optimize on-premise and bare-metal infrastructure environments
- Support and troubleshoot networking, storage, virtualization, and systems infrastructure
- Contribute to the evolution of Kubernetes and container orchestration capabilities
- Assist with automation, monitoring, observability, and operational tooling
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, performance, and network-related issues
- Work closely with engineering and data teams to improve platform reliability and scalability
- Take ownership of initiatives from concept through to production deployment
- Continuously improve operational processes, system resilience, and security practices
Required Skills
- Strong Linux systems administration experience
- Solid networking fundamentals, including:
- TCP/IP
- Routing and switching
- DNS
- Firewalls
- Load balancing
- Experience with bare-metal and/or on-premise infrastructure environments
- Experience with scripting and automation (e.g. Bash, Python, or similar)
- Strong problem-solving ability and systems thinking mindset
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical challenges
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tooling
- Understanding of observability and monitoring stacks (metrics, logs, tracing)
Qualifications
- Industry-related Degree or Diploma, or equivalent practical experience
- 3–5 years’ experience in infrastructure, systems administration, platform engineering, or a related technical environment
Formal qualifications are advantageous but not essential, with strong emphasis placed on demonstrable experience and technical capability.
