About the position
1. MAIN PURPOSE:
To support the production process with adequate levels of availability, operability (sustained production rates) and reliability relating to the mechanical and electrical aspect of the production and all ancillary equipment by ensuring that all engineering related breakdowns, problems and opportunities related to all equipment in the plant, are attended to in the shortest possible time and in the most effective and safest manner possible.

2. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Duties
- Technical Support
- Change overs timeously completed
- Breakdowns are minimized
- Production Equipment optimally setup
- Leads and provides technical support on product change overs on production equipment according to procedures and specified change-over times.
- Identifies and conducts maintenance/repairs/adjustments to production equipment to maximize equipment output and quality.
Procedures
- All work is done professionally and in line with documented safe-work procedures and instructions.
- Develop new procedures where required
- Manage all work performed to ensure that applicable procedures and standards are followed.
- Adhere to all instructions issued by management and ensure documentation thereof for future reference.
- Ensure Planned Job Observations are done on all positions on a 6 monthly basis
- Implement continuous improvement projects
- Manage program which will ensure optimum performance in achieving targets and objectives in the areas of waste, output, machine delay/ efficiency and reliability. This will include the development and implementation of continuous cost improvement plans, targeted performance and asset organizational strategies that will ensure a profitable department.
General
- To ensure that all the scheduled & ad-hoc work done on machinery, installations, lifting equipment etc comply with the OHS act and related regulations.
- To ensure all assigned planned maintenance completed for the month as per scheduled maintenance plan.
- To ensure Mechanical availability of all equipment is greater than 95%.
- To ensure all equipment are inspected at the assigned intervals
- To ensure no reoccurring breakdowns and attend to breakdown within 45 minutes of being called.
- To perform fitting tasks as listed to acceptable engineering standards, with no rework occurring.
- To ensure Respond to request for non-breakdown type of work the same day that it was requested. (Not necessarily complete the task on the same day)
- To ensure Incidences are reported immediately for health and safety compliance.
- To ensure workshop and work area is kept clean and equipment is maintained in a good condition at all times and comply with company and OHS act regulations.
- Will be on standby which requires one to work at night on a rotational basis.
- Fitting and maintenance of shafts, keys, couplings, bearings, gears, clutches, pulleys and belts
- Fault finding and resolving the issues within limited time
- Marking, drilling, tapping and machining
- Pneumatic fault finding and repairs on systems and components
- Knowledge of lubrication practices
- Replace and repair defective parts on the machines
- Able to communicate with various departments (Eng. Planner, RMS, production, Quality, SHE, Printing and Procurement)
- Maintenance of all equipment assigned to the plant
- Plant inspections to take place regular
- Attend to breakdowns and equipment problems
- General engineering tasks (schedules, shuts, change overs & root cause analysis)
- Fitting of keys, couplings, gears, pulleys and belts
- Fitting of bearings and shafts
- Marking, drilling, tapping and machining
- Hydraulic and Pneumatic fault finding and repairs on systems and components
- Repairing of Hydraulic and Pneumatic cylinders
- Maintenance of gears, chains, belts and all power transmission equipment
- Replace and repair defective parts on the machines
- Recondition gearboxes
- General fault finding on electrical
- Able to read & draw electrical drawing
- Some experience on AC drives & PLC will be advantage 3

4. QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
4.1. Minimum qualification required:
- Recognized Fitter trade test qualification
- Mechanical fitting in a FMCG environment (preferably home care consumer goods manufacturing) with an emphasis on conveyors, packaging equipment,
- chain and belt drives, motors, gearboxes, installation of equipment, pumps, compressors, pneumatics, maintenance techniques, lubrication, machining, welding, electric boiler, compressors, air-dryers, plate machines, diesel generator, hoists and lifting beams
- Experience with a recognized quality assurance system, such as ISO 9001
- Working knowledge of OSH act, Proficient in the execution of Safety Procedures, and Basic
- Have an above average knowledge of the production equipment, the operation and maintenance thereof.
- Fitting in a FMCG environment (preferably packaging industry with plate & rewinder machines) with an emphasis on conveyors, chain drives, motors, gearboxes, installation of equipment, pumps, compressors, pneumatics, maintenance techniques, lubrication.
- Machining, welding.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Forklift truck license will be advantage.
