Label Designer

About the position

My client based in Cape Town is currently looking for a Label Designer to join their team on a permanent basis.

IT / Finance

Responsibilities

• Design and update label templates using Report Designer.
• Ensure all labels comply with international export regulations and client specifications.
• Collaborate with IT, Operations, and external stakeholders to maintain accurate labelling processes.
• Ensure consistency and accuracy across different printer types and technologies.
• Troubleshoot label-related issues and resolve them quickly.
• Stay updated on labelling standards by liaising with clients and industry authorities.
• Support multilingual label design and localization projects.
• Maintain proper documentation, version control, and technical specifications for all labels.

Qualifications

• Recent graduate with a Diploma or Degree in Graphic Design, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Certifications in label design software or printing technologies are advantageous but not required.

Competencies

• Experience (or willingness to learn) in label design software.
• Understanding of printer technologies (thermal transfer, direct thermal, laser).
• Familiarity with barcode standards (GS1, QR codes, Data Matrix).
• Basic scripting knowledge (VBScript, JavaScript) for dynamic label generation.
• Strong grasp of layout, visual hierarchy, and readability.
• Ability to create clear, compliant, and user-friendly label designs.
• Awareness of agricultural export regulations and packhouse operations.
• Knowledge of international labelling compliance standards (e.g., EU, USDA).
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
