About the position
Role Summary
The Junior Systems Engineer will support the design, development, integration, verification, and qualification of complex systems that combine hardware and software to meet customer and operational requirements. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including hardware, software, and test engineers to translate user needs into technical specifications, support integration and verification activities, and ensure compliance with engineering and quality standards. This position requires strong analytical thinking, technical curiosity, and a structured approach to problem-solving within a high-technology aerospace and defence environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing User Requirements based on customer and operational needs.
- Support the development and maintenance of System Requirements, specifications, and interface documentation.
- Participate in System Safety Assessments under guidance from senior team members.
- Assist with high-level planning activities, including preparation and coordination of planning documentation.
- Support document requests for verification, qualification, and audit activities.
- Assist in preparation for and participation in audits, ensuring required documentation is available and up to date.
- Support system verification activities, including test preparation, execution support, and results documentation.
- Assist with verification audits and the collection of supporting evidence.
- Support product qualification activities in accordance with approved Qualification Test Procedures (QTPs).
- Assist in compiling qualification reports and maintaining accurate and complete data packs.
Requirements
- Beng degree in Mechatronics, NQF Level 7 or higher
- 0-3 years of post-graduation experience, up to 5 years advantageous; newly qualified engineers are welcome to apply.
- Understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle processes (requirements, design, verification, validation)
- Exposure to hardware and software integration, embedded systems, and control interfaces
- Familiarity with programming or analysis tools such as C/C++, Python, or MATLAB
- Awareness of quality, safety, and configuration management standards
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and attention to detail
- Own transport and valid driver's licence required
- Willingness to work in a structured engineering environment and travel as required
