Junior / Mid-Level PHP

About the position

We’re looking for a motivated Junior / Mid-Level PHP Developer to join our growing tech team in Cape Town, WC. In this role, you will architect, develop, and maintain both internal and client-facing functionality, from inception through to deployment.

You’ll work on exciting projects such as upgrading PHP codebases, developing RESTful APIs, migrating front-end systems to ReactJS, and integrating AI-powered solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain PHP-based applications using MVC frameworks (Symfony or Laravel)
• Write clean, efficient, and reusable code following best practices (SOLID, DRY, KISS)
• Monitor, test, improve, and upgrade existing functionality
• Assist in refactoring legacy code into modern systems
• Maintain and improve AWS-based production environments
• Create and consume REST and SOAP APIs
• Collaborate with a small, dynamic team in a start-up environment

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (equivalent experience considered)
• 2+ years of practical PHP OOP experience (WordPress experience not sufficient)
• 2+ years experience with MySQL or Postgres
• 2+ years experience with PHP MVC frameworks (Symfony preferred, Laravel acceptable)
• Proficient with Git and working in a Linux environment (Ubuntu preferred)
