About the position
A leading sustainability and energy management solutions company is seeking a motivated and analytical Junior Data Analyst to join their team in Bellville, Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing, analysing, and reporting on technical and energy-related data to support reporting services, operational decision-making, and sustainability initiatives. Working closely with senior analysts and developers, this role provides excellent opportunities for learning, professional development, and exposure to innovative energy management technologies.
Responsibilities:
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Support utility management reporting and analytical services for assigned clients.
- Utilise existing tools such as Power BI, Excel, BigQuery, and other reporting platforms to clean, process, analyse, and report on data.
- Identify data quality issues, trends, anomalies, actionable insights, and project opportunities.
- Conduct ad hoc analysis across various datasets, including:
- Energy and water consumption profiles
- Utility billing and tariff analysis
- Baseline and benchmark assessments
- Consumption forecasting and budgeting
- Temperature and operational performance analysis
- Sustainability-related reporting
- Assist senior analysts with technical investigations and analytical projects.
Platform & Reporting Tool Development
- Support the development and maintenance of internal and client-facing reporting tools.
- Assist with ongoing enhancements to software platforms and business intelligence solutions.
- Research emerging sustainability, energy management, and reporting trends.
- Continuously develop knowledge in areas such as:
- Sustainability and ESG reporting
- Load shedding and energy resilience
- Water management and conservation
- Business intelligence technologies and reporting capabilities
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
- Attend client meetings and assist with the presentation of reports and findings.
- Respond to client queries via email and telephone when required.
- Collaborate closely with Data Analysts, Developers, and other internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to a collaborative and solutions-driven team environment.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 1 year experience within an engineering, technical analysis, or data analytics environment.
- Passion for data analysis and strong logical, analytical, and systematic thinking abilities.
- Interest in business intelligence reporting and the visual presentation of technical data.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage tight deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on quality and accuracy.
- Willingness to learn through mentorship, training, and self-development.
Beneficial Skills:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience working with large datasets, data cleaning, aggregation, and process automation.
- Experience working with databases, particularly Google BigQuery.
- Exposure to data processing tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, or similar platforms.
- Experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Understanding of electrical systems, concepts, and technical drawings.
- Exposure to energy management, utilities management, sustainability, or ESG-related industries.
