About the position
Our client, a leading Manufacturing company based in Port Shepstone, is looking to fill the position of Instrument Technician.
Purpose of the Role:
Based in the automation department, and reporting to the Automation Engineer, the successful incumbent will be required to maintain the plant in an efficient manner, ensuring high standards of maintenance resulting in minimum breakdowns and maximum plant availabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fault finding on SIEMENS PCS7 / ABB 800xA and repair promptly.
- Read, understand, and update electrical and instrument drawings.
- Ensure all instrumentation / schedules checks are done, all defects reported on SAP and repaired.
- Implementation of instrumentation projects and software programming.
- Ensure all electrical wiring and installation work is done to South African installation standards.
- Ensure all required SAP related schedules completed timeously and correctly.
- Documentation for plant modifications and projects to be completed timeously and correctly.
- Supervising and mentoring assistants, learners and in service students.
- Perform standby duties and overtime as per operational requirement.
- Calibration of equipment.
- Ensure jobs are carried out safely, complete task risk assessments and follow isolation procedure.
- Follow good housekeeping rules at the workshop, server room and plant at all times.
- Continuous self-development on current technology installed in factory.
- Action Improvement and upgrades of a variety of machines.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legal prescriptions and constraints.
- Ensure compliance with company policy and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 Senior Certificate
- Recognised technical qualification for Instrument Technology
- S4/N6 with a minimum of 3 years' experience in heavy industry/process
- Computer literate (SAP advantageous)
- PLC & HMI experience-programming and fault finding on PCS7
- PLC & HMI experience-programming and fault finding on ABB 800xA
- SCADA (Win CC)
- Maintenance on Gas analysers, Emissions analysers, and Dust monitors
- Maintaining software backups
- Weighing systems calibration and inspections
- Communication protocols: ASI, Profibus and Ethernet
- Knowledge on all media and equipment used in industrial communication networks
- Commissioning and maintenance of Variable speed drives (SEW, WEG, Siemens and ABB)
- Knowledge, maintenance, and fault finding on all loops, temperature, pressure and flow
- Knowledge and fault finding on S7 300, S7 1200, S71500 PLC's in FMCG plants
