About the position
A well-established agricultural production business focused on high-quality crop cultivation and sustainable growing practices, is currently seeking a Hydroponics and Nursery Manager to join their team in Stanford.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced agricultural professional to lead hydroponic production and nursery operations, ensuring optimal crop performance, plant quality, operational efficiency, and team development. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving continuous improvement initiatives while supporting future business growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop hydroponic and nursery teams to achieve operational objectives.
- Foster a high-performance culture through coaching, mentoring, training, and performance management.
- Ensure appropriate workforce planning and staffing levels to support operational requirements.
- Promote compliance with company policies, health and safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Drive employee engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee all hydroponic growing operations to maximise crop health, yield, and quality.
- Manage crop nutrition programmes and monitor nutrient solutions.
- Ensure effective irrigation management and water-use efficiency.
- Coordinate planting schedules and production plans to meet business targets.
- Oversee integrated pest, disease, wildlife, and weed management programmes.
- Manage spraying applications in accordance with regulatory and safety requirements.
- Ensure hydroponic systems are maintained, cleaned, and sanitised to required standards.
- Monitor crop performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Oversee nursery production activities, including propagation, seedling development, and plant care.
- Ensure plant quality and readiness meet production timelines and production requirements.
- Monitor germination success rates, plant growth, and overall plant health.
- Optimise nursery processes to improve efficiency, quality, and plant survival rates.
- Coordinate nursery output with operational planting schedules.
- Develop and implement production plans aligned with business objectives.
- Manage operational inputs, including fertilisers, chemicals, growing media, consumables, and equipment.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate procurement requirements.
- Maintain accurate operational records, reporting systems, and production data.
- Analyse operational performance and recommend process improvements.
- Manage departmental budgets and control operational expenditure.
- Monitor resource utilisation and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Contribute to business planning and long-term growth strategies.
- Ensure compliance with agricultural, environmental, health, safety, and quality standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain operational excellence.
Requirements- Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Production, Crop Science, or a related field.
- Additional qualifications in Hydroponics, Protected Agriculture, or Nursery Management will be advantageous.
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in hydroponic farming, horticulture, nursery management, or intensive crop production.
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a management or supervisory role.
- Proven experience managing production teams and operational processes.
- Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, crop nutrition, pest and disease management, and nursery operations.
- Sound understanding of agricultural compliance, health and safety regulations, and quality standards.
