About the position
A professional rugby union team based in Durban, South Africa, competing in the United Rugby Championship and European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) competitions is seeking an HR Officer who will manage the full employee lifecycle and ensure organizational compliance with South African labor legislation.
Responsibilities:
- Recruitment: Manage the end-to-end process: advertising, screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Offboarding: Conduct exit interviews and ensure the recovery of company assets.
- Induction: Facilitate comprehensive induction programs for all new hires.
- Documentation: Draft and update employment contracts, SLAs, policies, and job descriptions.
- Industrial Relations: Lead disciplinary processes, grievances, investigations, and represent the company at the CCMA.
- Statutory Compliance: Act as POPI Deputy Officer; ensure adherence to EE, BBBEE, and general labor legislation.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit mandatory reports for BBBEE, Employment Equity (Dept. of Labour), and SETA/Workskills Plans.
- Payroll Support: Oversee weekly wages, overtime, and specialized payments (casuals/match day).
- Leave Management: Approve and reconcile leave via ESS; ensure accurate reporting.
- Benefits: Manage employee benefit schemes and general leave administration.
- Development: Coordinate training, learnerships, and SETA-funded initiatives.
- COIDA: Manage IOD claims via Compeasy, liaising with medical providers for staff and players (including Discovery/GAP).
- Performance: Drive and coordinate the annual performance management cycle.
- Fleet Management: Oversee vehicle checks, maintenance scheduling, and service provider liaison.
- Monitoring: Enforce policies regarding time, attendance, and punctuality.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Tertiary qualification in Human Resource Management.
- Experience: 3–5 years of generalist HR experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and HR systems (HR Premier/ESS).
- Legislation: Expert knowledge of SA Labor Law, EE, BBBEE, and POPIA.
- Competencies: High confidentiality, multitasking under pressure, and strong interpersonal communication.
