Purpose of the Position
The Hospital Manager provides strategic, operational, and managerial leadership across all aspects of the hospital's operations. The role ensures the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of clinical services while implementing the hospital's operational strategy, managing performance, and overseeing facilities management.
Key Performance Areas
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the hospital's strategic operational plan aligned with group strategy.
- Support the hospital in achieving organisational objectives and participate as a member of the management team.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal executives and external healthcare partners to ensure integrated patient care.
Service Delivery & Clinical Support
- Ensure appropriate management systems are in place to identify and address service delivery challenges.
- Oversee clinical support services to ensure they meet hospital standards and remain fit for purpose.
- Work collaboratively with customers and stakeholders to maintain mutually beneficial relationships.
Business Development & Growth
- Investigate specialist doctor opportunities and source new specialists as needed.
- Develop and implement growth strategies aimed at attracting new doctors.
- Assess market trends, competitor activity, and economic conditions affecting hospital operations.
- Identify marketing opportunities, define market segments, and forecast business projections.
Brand, Marketing & Financial Management
- Support execution of brand initiatives to enhance loyalty and visibility.
- Prepare, manage, and monitor operational budgets effectively.
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses for internal services vs. outsourced services.
- Promote sound financial management to support organisational effectiveness.
Human Resources & Organisational Culture
- Collaborate with HR on transformation initiatives and promote a culture of inclusivity.
- Support staff development through performance management, training needs identification, and supervision.
- Foster a positive working environment that values diversity and supports personal and professional growth.
Governance, Compliance & Facilities Management
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
- Support the implementation of group policies and frameworks.
- Manage capital projects to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
- Review hospital and nursing policies to ensure alignment with organisational goals.
- Work with clinical departments to develop and implement quality standards for patient care.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree (NQF Level 7 or equivalent) in Business, Health Services Management, or a related field.
- Postgraduate qualification or MBA in a relevant field (advantageous).
Experience
- 8-10 years' experience in the healthcare sector.
- Minimum 5 years in a senior management role within a healthcare environment.
- Experience in:
- Clinical and/or corporate governance
- Project management
- Facilities management
- Financial management
Skills (Practical & Technical)
- Deep knowledge of hospital operations, policies, and healthcare delivery best practices.
- Strong understanding of the healthcare sector and senior-level operations.
