About the position
A rare opportunity to shape the commercial direction of a well-established digital platform at a pivotal stage of growth. Reporting directly to executive leadership, you'll take ownership of growth, retention, and revenue performance across the business, operating at the intersection of strategy, sales, partnerships, customer success, and execution. With the backing of an experienced leadership team and the autonomy to influence direction, you'll play a key role in driving sustainable growth across both existing and emerging markets.
This role will suit someone who combines strategic thinking with a strong bias for action. You'll be comfortable operating at both executive and operational levels, moving between commercial planning, stakeholder engagement, team leadership, and hands-on execution as required.
Key areas of focus include:
- Owning commercial revenue performance across products, customer segments, and channels
- Setting and driving growth and retention targets in partnership with executive leadership
- Identifying opportunities for commercial improvement, market expansion, and revenue optimisation
- Leading, coaching, and developing a multidisciplinary commercial team across sales, account management, marketing, CRM, and customer growth functions
- Creating a high-performance culture built around accountability, execution, and customer value
- Maintaining strong CRM discipline, pipeline visibility, and data integrity
- Using commercial and operational data to drive decision-making and performance improvements
- Providing regular reporting and insight into pipeline health, customer activity, retention trends, and growth opportunities
- Building and strengthening relationships with enterprise customers, strategic partners, and senior stakeholders
- Supporting complex commercial discussions and partnership opportunities alongside the broader leadership team
Key Requirement:
- A relevant degree, postgraduate qualification, MBA, or equivalent commercial experience
- At least 8 years of commercial, sales, growth, or business development experience
- A minimum of 3 years in a senior leadership or executive-level role
- Proven success leading B2B commercial growth within financial services, fintech, SaaS, technology, or related sectors
- Experience working within both structured corporate environments and high-growth technology businesses
- Strong understanding of the South African SME, merchant, retail, or business customer landscape
- Hands-on experience with CRM platforms such as HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar systems
- Strong commercial acumen combined with analytical and data-driven decision-making capability
- The ability to influence senior stakeholders and build trusted long-term relationships
- Experience building, scaling, or transforming commercial teams would be highly advantageous
- Exposure to digital payments, transaction-based businesses, retail technology, customer acquisition platforms, or partnership-led growth models would be beneficial
