About the position
The Group Accountant Manager is a middle-management finance professional responsible for the consolidated financial operations of the Group. The role ensures compliance with the Companies Act of South Africa, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), SARS requirements, and internal group policies. The incumbent oversees statutory reporting, internal controls, group audits, tax coordination, and supports financial strategy and governance. This position requires strong technical accounting skills, leadership capabilities, and a solid understanding of multi-entity reporting structures within the South African regulatory and tax environment.
Key Performance Areas
Financial Accounting, Consolidation & Ledger Management
- Oversee group financial accounting, including month-end and year-end closings across multiple legal entities.
- Prepare consolidated Annual Financial Statements (AFS) in accordance with IFRS and Companies Act No. 71 of 2008.
- Maintain accurate general ledgers, manage journal entries, and ensure all balance sheet reconciliations are completed.
- Post and reconcile intercompany transactions and eliminate intra-group balances during consolidation.
- Oversee the management of cash books, bank reconciliations, and the fixed asset register, including depreciation schedules and impairments.
Financial Reporting & Budget Support
- Compile and present monthly management accounts, financial packs, and variance analysis for executives reporting.
- Support business units with the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes using historical trend analysis.
- Provide detailed financial commentary, highlighting risks, performance drivers, and opportunities.
- Track and manage financial KPIs, cost allocations, and assist in resource planning across departments.
Statutory Compliance, Audit & Tax Management
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of SARS statutory returns including VAT201, EMP201, ITR14, IRP5s and IT3a certificates.
- Coordinate and manage external audit processes, ensuring full audit readiness and resolution of audit findings.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, banks, and CIPC to maintain full regulatory compliance.
- Oversee tax computations, including provisional tax, income tax, PAYE, UIF, and SDL for all entities.
- Prepare supporting financial documentation for B-BBEE verifications, COIDA returns, and other statutory filings.

- Accounting Software: Sage Evolution / Pastel Partner / Xero / SAP (mandatory)
- Tax Compliance Tools: SARS eFiling, EasyFile, GreatSoft (mandatory)
- Reporting Tools: Microsoft Excel (advanced), Power BI (beneficial)
- Statutory Systems: CIPC, UIF uFiling, COIDA, B-BBEE portal
