About the position

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for an accomplished leader to oversee the strategic and operational management of a renowned performing arts and cultural venue located in the heart of Soweto. This iconic theatre serves as a centre for creativity, artistic development, cultural exchange, and community empowerment, attracting diverse audiences while supporting emerging and established artists.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving the theatre's growth, strengthening its community impact, enhancing its commercial sustainability, and positioning it as a leading destination for arts, entertainment, and cultural experiences.

Minimum Requirements

Option 1

  • Grade 12 (NQF Level 4)
  • Relevant Diploma (NQF Level 6) or equivalent qualification
  • 15 years' experience in Operations Management, including at least 8 years in a senior management role

OR

Option 2

  • Relevant Degree (NQF Level 7) or equivalent qualification
  • 10 years' experience in Operations Management, including at least 5 years in a senior management role

  • Experience managing complex operational environments
  • Sound understanding of governance, compliance, labour relations, and performance management

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and operational leadership for the theatre
  • Drive audience growth, community participation, and programme development initiatives
  • Develop and implement business strategies that support long-term sustainability and revenue generation
  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation
  • Manage theatre facilities, technical infrastructure, and organisational assets
  • Lead, develop, and inspire multidisciplinary teams to achieve organisational objectives
  • Build and maintain relationships with government institutions, artists, community organisations, sponsors, and commercial partners
  • Champion innovative programming that reflects the diversity and vibrancy of South African arts and culture
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, policies, and governance requirements
  • Monitor organisational performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives
