Role Purpose
The ideal candidate must have a strong working knowledge of finance and commerce.
The GM is responsible for leading a large-scale processing and packaging facility operating in a high-volume, fast-paced production environment.
While primary product input is agricultural, the operation is managed as a manufacturing business with structured production flows, strict quality standards, and commercial performance targets. The CEO retains responsibility for upstream supply; the GM owns all downstream processing and order fulfilment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Commercial Performance
- Full P&L accountability for processing and packaging operations.
- Develop and manage operational budgets and cost reduction programs.
- Control labour, materials, utilities, and overhead costs.
- Evaluate and justify capital investments through financial modelling and ROI analysis.
- Support commercial decision-making through cost-to-serve and margin analysis.
Operations & Production Leadership
- Full accountability for production planning, throughput, efficiency, and output targets.
- Optimize plant layout, workflow design, and line balancing to improve productivity.
- Implement and maintain standardized operating procedures (SOPs) across all processes.
- Ensure maximum uptime through effective maintenance strategies and asset management.
- Lead capacity planning for peak demand periods.
Quality Systems & Regulatory Compliance
- Own quality management systems, product specifications, and customer standards.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable food safety, health, safety, and labor regulations.
- Lead internal and external audits, corrective action programs, and root cause analysis.
- Maintain full product traceability and documentation systems.
Supply Chain & Customer Fulfilment
- Oversee finished goods inventory, cold storage, and dispatch operations.
- Ensure high service levels in order accuracy, delivery performance, and responsiveness.
- Coordinate production schedules with sales forecasts and customer demand.
- Support product customization, packaging formats, and value-added processing initiatives.
Systems, Data & Reporting
- Implement and optimize ERP, MES, and production reporting systems.
- Establish KPI dashboards for productivity, cost, quality, safety, and service.
- Provide accurate, timely operational and financial reporting to the CEO.
- Use data-driven insights to guide operational and strategic decisions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Finance, Engineering or Manufacturing
- Strong financial literacy including budgeting, cost control, and capital investment analysis.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in the manufacturing industry
- Proven experience managing large production teams in regulated environments.
- Demonstrated success in improving productivity and reducing operational costs.
- Experience working with formal quality management systems.
- Experience with high-volume, labour-intensive production environments.
- Exposure to automation, equipment specification, and process engineering.
- ERP or manufacturing execution system implementation experience.
