About the position
Our client has a vacancy for a General Manager - Engineering on a contract basis.
Responsibilities for the role include:
Executive Reporting
- Timeous and accurate reporting to EXCO, ensuring data-driven insights for strategic decisions.
? Technical Leadership
- Direct and coordinate technical activities within the Transport Business Unit.
- Ensure technical compliance of all projects and programs with relevant engineering standards, policies, and statutory requirements.
? Client and Account Management
- Maintain and grow client relationships through strategic engagement.
- Serve as the technical point of contact for key accounts.
? Innovation and Solution Design
- Manage technical innovation initiatives in collaboration with the Chief Technical Officer.
Collaborate with the Solution Architect to design engineering and ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) solutions tailored to client needs
Business Development
- Identify and explore new opportunities in the market.
- Drive technical input and review for Transport-related bid responses and tenders.
- Engage with clients and suppliers to align on innovative technical solutions.
- Research and identify potential new products and services.
? Centre of Excellence Development
- Establish and maintain best practices for engineering excellence.
- Develop and disseminate thought leadership in transport engineering and ITS.
Lead the development and delivery of ITS-specific technical training programs.
Education:
- Minimum - Appropriate tertiary Qualification: Engineering
- Professional Engineering Registration
- Diploma or Certificate in Project Management
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years Transport Management Experience
- Minimum of 15 years in Engineering
Understanding of IT systems and software
Technicial Competencies:
- General Engineering
- Professional Engineering Expertise
- Deep understanding of transport engineering principles, road infrastructure, and systems design.
- Proven knowledge of traffic engineering, ITS, and sustainable mobility solutions.
- Project Management
- Ability to manage multi-disciplinary engineering projects from inception to completion.
- Proficiency in project planning, risk management, budgeting, and delivery assurance.
- Engineering Standards Compliance
- Strong knowledge of national and international engineering codes, standards, and legislative frameworks (e.g., SANRAL, SANS, ISO, ECSA).
- Quality Assurance
- Skilled in reviewing technical documents, designs, and specifications to ensure quality and compliance
- Systems Engineering
- Requirements Engineering: Proficient in eliciting, analyzing, validating, and managing system requirements across the lifecycle.
- System Architecture & Integration: Capable of designing and managing complex, multi-disciplinary systems architecture and interfaces.
