Fitter

About the position

Our client a manufacturer of plastic bottles and caps is looking for a Fitter to join their team in Johannesburg, East Rand.
Perform mechanical fault finding and repairs on production equipment

Maintain and repair:

• Injection moulding machines
• Blow moulding machines

Work on: Hydraulic and pneumatic systems

Assist with:

• Mould changes and setups
• Basic mould maintenance
• Carry out preventive maintenance (inspection, lubrication, part replacement)
• Respond to breakdowns and minimise downtime
• Identify root causes of recurring issues and suggest improvements

Minimum Requirements

• Trade-tested Fitter & Turner or equivalent 
• Plastics / blow moulding / injection moulding industry experience will secure
• Experience in a manufacturing or production environment
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
• Understanding of: Hydraulics and Pneumatics
• Comfortable using workshop tools and measuring equipment

 
Bonus Requirement
Plastics manufacturing: Injection moulding and Blow moulding

Equipment & Systems
Experience with VSDs (Variable Speed Drives)
Exposure to:

• Compressors, chillers, conveyors
• Continuous production environments

Tooling & Toolmaking

• Toolmaking or mould repair experience
• Ability to work with tight tolerances and precision components

Electrical & multi-Skilling
Basic electrical capability, including:

• Installing or wiring VSDs
• Running and terminating cables
• Reading basic electrical diagrams
• Basic electrical fault finding
• Experience with motors and control components

PLC / Controls

• Basic PLC exposure (fault finding, not programming)
• Ability to identify control or signal issues
