Role: External Sales Representative
Location: Gauteng - Regions to cover : Johannesburg North, Midrand and Pretoria areas.
Industry:
The product range being sold is Welding Equipment, Welding Consumables and Protective gear.
Languages: Speak English and Afrikaans
The package: R25,000 per month plus vehicle / fuel allowance plus commission
Qualification and Requirements
- Matric.
- Tertiary qualification advantageous.
- Proven experience as an External Sales Rep.
- Valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle - essential
- Excellent sales track record.
- Clear criminal record

- Build and promote strong, long-lasting customer relationships by partnering with them and understanding their needs.
- Deliver compelling presentations and demonstrations to potential customers.
- Achieve budgeted annual and monthly sales performance targets while maintaining budgeted GP.
- Present monthly sales reports and realistic forecasts for sales pipeline.
- Prepare and deliver quotations and follow up with key decision makers.
- Develop and maintain an awareness of market behaviour and competitive trends and respond accordingly.
- Regular meetings with managers and the sales teams to review weekly activities, progress, and pipeline insights to customers.
- Provide excellent aftersales support to ensure customer satisfaction and encourage repeat business.
Role & Responsibilities
- All Internal and External Sales functions, including dealing with incoming customer phone, emails, internet, sales counter enquires, product demonstrations, as well as visiting customers at their premises to ensure a superior customer service and to expand the range and volume of customer purchases.
- Recommending of suitable products for customers’ requirements.
- Processing of customer’s orders, including quotations, checking stock availability, capturing picking slips and invoices.
- Assisting with stock take duties.
- Cold calling at potential customers premises and following up on leads to develop and increase the size of the customer base.
- Manage a group of customers, ensuring that they are receiving superior service and that they are purchasing a full range of the company’s products and that sales budgets are being achieved. An important part of this function will be visiting the customers at their premises and building strong inter-company relationships.
- Manage product groups, to ensure a full range of products in the range are being sold and that sales budgets are being achieved.
- Ensure that any important information regarding the company’s suppliers, customers, competitors, and staff which comes to light is brought to management’s attention.
- Manage, complete, and update daily/weekly/monthly sales reports and call cycles.
- Any and all ad hoc duties reasonably falling within the employee’s skills, experience and training.
Sales & Business Development
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the welding and industrial sectors.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
- Meet or exceed monthly and annual sales targets for welding equipment, consumables, and services.
- Conduct market research to identify trends, competitor activity, and customer needs.
Customer Engagement
- Conduct regular client visits to assess their welding needs and provide tailored solutions.
- Deliver technical presentations and product demonstrations to customers.
- Act as a key point of contact for customers: providing pre-sales and post-sales support.
- Gather feedback and relay customer requirements to the internal technical or product teams.
Product Knowledge & Technical Support
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of welding equipment, machines, consumables, and safety gear.
- Provide basic technical guidance and troubleshooting for customers (in collaboration with technical teams if needed).
- Stay current with industry standards, codes and welding techniques.
Reporting & Administration
- Prepare and submit sales reports, forecasts, and customer visit logs.
- Manage CRM tools to track leads, opportunities, and customer interactions.
- Collaborate with the internal sales, logistics, and finance teams to ensure smooth order processing and delivery.
Territory Management
- Manage and develop a specific geographic sales territory or sector.
- Plan efficient travel schedules and customer visit routes to maximize coverage and productivity.
Promotions & Trade Shows
- Represent the company at trade shows, expos, and industry events.
- Organize or participate in customer workshops, training sessions, and product launches.
After-Sales Service
- Follow up with clients after sales to ensure satisfaction and resolve any issues.
- Coordinate service, maintenance, or warranty support when necessary
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during product demonstrations or customer interactions.
- Promote and uphold the company's safety and quality standards in all interactions
