About the position
Our client , a global leader within the Freight and Shipping industry is currently seeking to appoint a highly experienced and results-driven External Sales Consultant to join their dynamic team. Responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities while building and maintaining strong client relationships within the logistics and maritime sector.
The ideal candidate must possess a proven track record in sales within the freight forwarding, shipping, or logistics environment, with the ability to effectively market services, negotiate contracts, and contribute towards overall business growth.
Strong industry knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to develop strategic sales initiatives are essential for success in this role. The successful applicant will be expected to proactively source and secure new clients, maintain existing customer relationships, and consistently achieve sales targets while representing the company in a professional and corporate manner.
Requirements and Competencies
- A minimum of six years’ proven experience within the shipping industry or a closely related maritime environment is essential. Candidates must demonstrate a solid understanding of shipping operations, logistics coordination, and industry best practices.
- At least two years’ experience in ship agency sales or a related commercial sales role within the maritime sector is required. The successful candidate should possess strong client engagement skills and the ability to identify and develop business opportunities.
- A tertiary qualification in Maritime Studies, Shipping Management, Logistics, Import/Export Management, or a related field will be considered advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. The candidate must be capable of engaging professionally with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues at all levels, including the ability to effectively manage difficult or demanding clients while consistently maintaining a professional corporate image.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities are critical.
- Proficiency in computer applications is required, including practical working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook/Email systems. The ability to prepare reports, presentations, and maintain accurate electronic records is essential.
- The candidate must be able to work efficiently under pressure.
- Strong administrative capabilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail are required.
- A valid driver’s license is mandatory, as the role may require regular travel to ports, client premises, and other operational locations.
- Excellent time management, planning, and organizational skills are essential.
