Expat Financial Manager

About the position

Description/Synopsis:
Our client, a leading forestry company with operations in East Africa, is seeking an experienced and hands-on Expat Financial Manager to be based in Kampala, Uganda.

The role is responsible for overseeing the country’s finance operations, managing a small but capable team, and acting as a key commercial partner to operations. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical finance skills with operational insight, a collaborative leadership style, and the ability to mentor and develop local finance staff.

Minimum Requirements:

• CA(SA), ACCA, CA(Z) OR BCom with articles, CIMA
• Minimum 5–8 years’ finance management experience.
• Previous operational/manufacturing sector experience essential
• African or international expat experience preferred.
• Proven track record in cash flow management, reporting, and supplier/customer relationship management.
• Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural leadership skills.

 

Main Responsibilities:

• Full financial management of Uganda operations.
• Cash flow ownership – forecasting, monitoring, and managing funding needs.
• Oversee daily bank reconciliations, cash-ups, and financial statement reviews.
• Payroll oversight, asset register management, and creditors’ reconciliations.
• Mentor, train, and upskill local finance staff.
• Build and maintain strong supplier, customer, and stakeholder relationships.
• Support tenders, due diligence processes, and other commercial projects.
• Stand in for the Operations Director when required.
