About the Opportunity
We are seeking a highly accomplished and strategic leader to head up a Technical & Standards function within a leading professional body in the accountancy space.
This role is suited to an individual who is passionate about shaping the future of the profession, influencing regulatory direction, and driving technical excellence across the industry. You will operate at executive level, engaging with key regulatory bodies, industry stakeholders, and internal leadership to ensure the organisation remains at the forefront of professional standards and thought leadership.
The Role
As Executive: Technical & Standards, you will take full accountability for the strategic direction, leadership, and operational delivery of the Technical & Standards function.
You will lead a team of specialists and drive initiatives that enhance professional standards, support members, and position the organisation as a trusted authority within the accountancy profession.
Key Focus Areas
Strategic Leadership & Direction
• Define and execute a forward-looking Technical & Standards strategy aligned to organisational objectives
• Drive innovation in competency frameworks, assessments, and professional development pathways
• Position the organisation as a thought leader in the evolving financial and regulatory landscape
Technical Excellence & Advisory
• Oversee the development of technical guidance, practice notes, and professional publications
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality technical advisory services to members
• Lead research and thought leadership initiatives that influence the profession
Regulatory & Industry Engagement
• Engage with local and international regulatory and standard-setting bodies
• Monitor and interpret legislative developments, ensuring proactive response and industry alignment
• Lead submissions, commentary, and representation on regulatory matters
Operational & Commercial Delivery
• Oversee departmental planning, budgeting, and performance management
• Drive the development of new products, services, and revenue streams aligned to member needs
• Ensure effective systems, processes, and service delivery models are in place
Stakeholder Engagement
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry stakeholders, partners, and service providers
• Collaborate across internal functions to support organisational goals and accreditation initiatives
People Leadership
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing technical team
• Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and service delivery
• Drive talent development, succession planning, and performance management
What We’re Looking For
• A seasoned professional with deep expertise in the accountancy and financial regulatory environment
• Proven experience operating at a senior or executive level within a technical, advisory, or standards-driven environment
• Strong understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks and professional bodies (e.g. IFRS, IFAC, IRBA, SARS, etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to influence, engage, and lead across multiple stakeholder groups
• A strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into execution
• Strong commercial acumen and experience managing budgets and revenue initiatives
• Exceptional communication and thought leadership capability
Qualifications & Experience
• Relevant Honours, Master’s degree, or recognised professional qualification
• Minimum 10 years’ experience within a relevant technical or professional environment
• Proven leadership and people management experience
