Leading manufacturer based in Germiston requires an Electrical Maintenance Superintendent with experience in "heavy industrial environments."
PURPOSE OF JOB
Responsible for managing all aspects of the Electrical Maintenance Department.
This includes managing the upkeep of all manufacturing electrical systems, managing the maintenance budget and resources, and assisting in the design and installation of new electrical systems.
This position is responsible for managing multiple shifts of Maintenance Supervisors and Electricians.
Must be proficient in the design, implementation, and maintenance of LV and MV electrical systems.
Have extensive knowledge of substations, transformers, MCC systems, furnaces, vacuum circuit breakers, VSDs, PLC’s and protection relay systems.
Skilled in PLC fault finding, fault diagnostics, root cause and failure mode analysis (RCA/FMEA), and condition monitoring.
Expertise in switchgear solutions to improve system reliability and operational efficiency.
Ability to optimize voltage distribution and integrate electrical systems for enhanced performance.
Proficient in panel wiring
DESCRIPTION OF TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs maintenance management by supervising electrical personnel and establishing priorities in maintenance schedules.
Maintains manufacturing electrical systems and facility, parts inventory, monitoring purchase orders, invoice approvals, and manages the department budget.
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage the electrical maintenance team, contractors, budgets, cost control, and compliance
Performs Performance Evaluations on direct reports at least twice a year.
Drive preventive maintenance strategies aligned with RCM (Reliability-Centered Maintenance) principles to improve equipment availability and minimize downtime.
Performs other duties by coordinating work with outside inspections, providing project management, ensuring safety of personnel, and performing other duties as required.
Managing, maintaining, and establishing maintenance procedures for production lines to ensure production meets or performs better than budget.
Developing and maintaining quality standards.
Developing and maintaining associate safety standards.
Develop associate and supervisor skills by conducting technical training meetings; one-on-one development sessions/mentorship; external technical skills training; and establishing and monitoring performance reviews for supervisors.
Setting and maintaining departmental budget by reviewing financial statements; monitoring line efficiencies; labor cost; and other expenses.
Participate in designing and developing future production capacities by attending design meetings; coordinating with R&D regarding product changes and improvements; and updating maintenance operating procedures and schedules accordingly.
Apply the principles of PLAN, LEAD, ORGANISE and CONTROL in the department.
Ensure that work carried out by the electrical department complies with good engineering practices and standards and conforms to relevant SABS and OHS Act codes.
Plan, control, and execute preventative maintenance schemes in conjunction with superiors.
Ensure that ALL electrical systems are adequately protected to prevent damage to equipment.
Ensure that ALL electrical systems are always safe and do not cause any harm to employees.
Promote safety, provide safety talks, and rectify unsafe conditions.
Ensure that ALL statutory inspections are carried out correctly and on time.
Liaise with managers, supervisors, and operators to ensure all work is completed correctly and on time without unnecessary delays.
Plan and organize shutdown work including labor requirements.
Undertake research and provide technical support and advice as needed.
Work involves daily exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, humidity, and/or noise.
Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks, such as electrical, mechanical, and chemical hazards.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Matric
BSc/B-Tech degree in Electrical Engineering or Qualified Electrician
Minimum of 7 - 10 years post qualification experience
Minimum of 4 - 5 years supervisory / management experience
Experience in "heavy industrial environments" is essential
