Cost Accountant

About the position

If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves, understanding the production process up close and owning the costing function end-to-end, this role is built for you!
Our client is a reputable manufacturing company within the electrical and building industry, known for quality products, strong operational processes and a collaborative culture. Based at their Johannesburg Central plant, the successful incumbent will play a key role in driving accurate costing, financial analysis and operational efficiency, with regular interaction on the factory floor. You’ll influence critical decisions, ensure costing accuracy and help optimise manufacturing performance, all while being right at the centre of operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Determine and calculate overhead and labour costs
• Maintain and update standard costs
• Perform new product costing
• Analyse standard vs actual cost variances and investigate discrepancies
• Review production costs and recommend cost-effective solutions
• Analyse and report sales and profit margins for the production division
• Review, maintain and analyse BOMs and routings
• Manage and reconcile stock and WIP
• Prepare budgets, capex and investment proposals for the production division
• Collaborate with Sales, Production, Planning and Procurement for costing input
• Prepare monthly management accounts and reporting

Job Experience & Skills Required:

• BCom in Management Accounting
• CIMA qualification advantageous
• Proven experience as a Cost Accountant or Cost Analyst
• Manufacturing experience is essential
• Experience with Sage X3 and CaseWare
• Advanced MS Excel
• Strong analytical and investigative ability
• Ability to read technical drawings (advantageous)
• Hands-on, operational approach
• Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively
