Primary Purpose of the Role
The Corporate Finance Analyst will provide vital financial, quantitative, and qualitative research support to the deal execution team. This role is highly analytical and requires the ability to build robust financial models, perform company valuations, conduct deep market research, and draft high-quality client deliverables (such as pitch books and Information Memorandums) for M&A and capital-raising transactions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 Financial Modelling & Valuation
- Build, maintain, and review complex, integrated financial models (3-statement models, DCF, LBO, and merger models).
- Perform valuation analyses using various methodologies including Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), Trading Comparables, and Precedent Transactions.
- Conduct sensitivity and scenario analyses to stress-test financial projections.
2 Deal Execution & Transaction Support
- Assist in the preparation of marketing materials, including teaser documents, Information Memorandums (IMs), and management presentations.
- Support the buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence processes, identifying deal risks and value drivers.
- Assist in setting up and managing Virtual Data Rooms (VDRs) and coordinate the Q&A process during due diligence.
3 Market Research & Deal Origination
- Conduct detailed industry, market, and competitor research to identify macroeconomic trends and potential M&A targets or investment opportunities.
- Monitor JSE and global market trends, regulatory updates, and corporate actions.
- Formulate strategic insights and assist in drafting pitch books to target new clients.
4 Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Actively engage with client management teams to gather financial data and operational insights.
- Collaborate internally across BDO's Tax, Audit, and Legal service lines to ensure comprehensive client delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPRERIENCE:
- A relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Investment Management, or Financial Mathematics (e.g., BCom Hons in Investment Management / Corporate Finance, BBusSci, or CA(SA) path).
- Progression towards or completion of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation is highly advantageous.
- 1 to 3 years of experience within a Corporate Finance, Investment Banking, Private Equity, or Valuations environment.
- Candidates who have recently completed SAICA articles with strong exposure to corporate finance assignments will also be considered.
Technical Competencies:
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (financial modelling) and PowerPoint.
- Strong understanding of IFRS, financial statements, and corporate finance theory.
- Experience utilizing market data platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Infront, or Dealmakers) is a plus.
