About the position
Our client, a leading mining company based in Kathu, Northern Cape is looking for a Contracts Advisor to join their team on a long term contract.
The main purpose of this role is to ensure effective contract administration, compliance, risk mitigation, and alignment with the company's policies for the mine's contractual rights and obligations.
About the Project:
The project involves upgrading technology at the DMS processing plant at the Mine. Implementing this new Ultra High Dense Media Separation (UHDMS) technology will allow the processing of both low and high-grade iron ore, producing more premium iron ore. The upgrade will increase the percentage of premium iron ore products, utilise material previously regarded as waste, and extend the life of the mine.
Minimum Requirements:
- National Diploma in Procurement and Supply Chain Management/ Contract Management/ Business Administration/ Paralegal Studies (with a focus on contract law)
- Drivers' licence
- Contract law and management principles.
- Understanding of risk management and mitigation in contractual contexts.
- Familiarity with compliance standards, especially the company's Group policies.
- Knowledge of change management processes and documentation protocols.
- Project management fundamentals, especially scheduling and cost integration.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and best practices.
- Proficiency in contract management software and documentation tools.
- Strong reporting skills, including creating and analysing progress and status reports.
- Ability to track and manage contractual changes, modifications, and site instructions.
- Advanced knowledge in document control systems and record-keeping.
- Familiarity with risk identification tools and corrective action frameworks.
- Project tracking and monitoring skills, especially for schedule and cost alignment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Performance and Delivery
- Assist in ensuring that the rights and obligations in terms of the contract are effectively discharged.
- Effectively assist in resolving contractual disputes or other issues to avoid or limit impact on scope, time, cost or quality.
- Effective execution of the legal requirements of the contracts.
- Effective risk identification and mitigation regarding all aspects of Contract Administrative Services.
- Maintain contractual records and documentation, such as receipts and control of all contract correspondence, customer contact information sheets, contractual changes, status reports, and other project documents.
- Manage site instructions, the change management process, change requests, and contract modifications, and report weekly on these areas to the Controls and Procurement Manager.
- Implement corrective actions when required to correct gaps identified that can place a risk on the business
- Prepare documents for tenders.
- Supply information to resolve disputes if they arise.
- Liaise with project personnel on equipment deliveries and requirements.
- Represent the company at applicable project and contractor meetings.
- Assist with the integration of contracts in terms of schedule and cost.
- Ensure that progress updates and reports are completed and distributed weekly. These reports will be created using templates supplied by the business.

- Act as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health for the site are paramount.
- Provide an environment for on-site teams to challenge and act on unsafe behaviours without repercussions.
- Collect and summarise the specific risks within the work area and implement plans/systems to avoid these risks.
- Manage Safety and Health systems within the work area.

- Procurement and Contracts teams, Controls and Project Management teams, Legal and Compliance departments, Site and Project personnel for operational coordination and Governance and Risk Management teams

- Contractors and Suppliers, Legal Advisors and external counsel as needed, Regulatory and Compliance Bodies
