Clinical Psychologist at YM Group Consulting

About the position

We are seeking a skilled and registered Clinical Psychologist to join our growing medico-legal practice. The ideal candidate will have experience in assessing psychological injury,compiling expert reports, and working with legal teams on personal injury, trauma, and medical negligence cases. This role involves conducting psychological assessments, diagnosing mental health conditions relevant to legal claims, and providing expert opinion regarding emotional, cognitive, and functional impairments.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments for medico-legal purposes, including cases involving:

• Road Accident Fund (RAF)
• Medical negligence
• Personal injury
• Trauma and post-traumatic stress
• Administer and interpret relevant psychometric tests (e.g., MMPI, Beck Inventories, WAIS, etc.).
• Prepare detailed, structured expert reports suitable for use in court or legal settlement.
• Assess psychological functioning in relation to pre- and post-incident emotional and cognitive status.
• Collaborate with attorneys, case managers, and other expert witnesses.
• Testify in court as an expert witness when required.
• Ensure all work is conducted in line with ethical, legal, and HPCSA standards.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master's in Clinical Psychology.
• Registered with the HPCSA as a Clinical Psychologist (Independent Practice).
• Minimum 3 years' clinical experience.
• Prior experience in medico-legal assessments.
• Strong psychometric assessment and report writing skills.
• Excellent command of English (verbal and written).
• Valid driver's license and own transport (if travel is required).
• Professional indemnity insurance (preferred).
• Willing to travel around the country.

Key Skills and Competencies:

• Solid understanding of psychopathology and trauma-related disorders.
• Accuracy and objectivity in forensic-level reporting.
• Familiarity with medico-legal processes, terminology, and court procedures.
• Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
• Confident in providing oral testimony under cross-examination (advantageous).
