Asset Accountant

About the position

The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate recording, reconciliation and control of fixed assets for the Group, to ensure compliance with company policy and procedures. You will also be responsible for supporting the audit process and the integrity of the fixed asset ledger.

Responsibilities include:

• Recording and maintaining newly acquired assets, transfers and disposals in the fixed asset ledger, in line with the fixed assets policy, IFRS and tax laws
• Reconciling the fixed asset register to the general ledger monthly and preparing movement schedules
• Reconciling the fixed asset tax register and preparing movement schedules
• Overseeing tagging, tracking and verification of all physical assets across the Group
• Conducting regular physical audits and spot checks to ensure asset existence and condition
• Investigating and resolving discrepancies between physical assets and the fixed asset register
• Preparing monthly reports on acquisitions (capex), disposals and asset movements
• Supporting the budgeting and forecasting processes
• Providing management with analysis on asset performance and cost efficiencies
• Ensuring compliance with internal controls, accounting standards and regulatory requirements
• Maintaining insurance records and preparing monthly claims report
• Preparing the annual insurance declaration by gathering and interpreting financial and statistical information across Group entities

• Reconciling the self-insurance aggregate account to claims paid

• Assisting with fixed asset related projects across Group companies

• Assist with maintaining financial accounting policies, procedures and processes relating to fixed assets
• Monitoring adherence to financial accounting policies and procedures

Requirements:

• Matric
• B Compt (Hons) with articles (preferred)
• Minimum 3 years' relevant experience, preferably managing assets across multiple locations
• Knowledge of IFRS and South African tax legislation relating to fixed assets
